Global Strategies Department
Since the 1970s, tens of thousands of UFCW members have witnessed the acquisition of their employers by foreign retailers and manufacturers. As consolidation among the world’s largest employers continues, the department works to promote joint organizing and bargaining strategies. The UFCW sponsors summits that bring together workers from dozens of nations to discuss the challenges they face and develop plans to gain a voice in the giant international corporations where they work. This effort has produced victories for workers across the world and lets companies expanding to new countries and continents know that the rights and dignity of their employees must be respected.
Joining with sister unions around the world, the UFCW will continue to fight so workers who live continents apart but whose interests are connected through the global economy of the 21st century can speak with one voice.
