Negotiated Benefits Department

The mission of the Negotiated Benefits Department is to provide technical and collective bargaining support to UFCW local unions on issues related to bargained health insurance and pensions. The department provides an immediate resource to protect and promote benefits that are essential to UFCW members and their families, and gives UFCW members a bargaining ability that is unique among international unions.

The department works closely with the UFCW Collective Bargaining Department, and advises labor trustees of the union’s 150 Taft-Hartley multi-employer trust funds covering two-thirds of the union’s membership. In addition, it helps the UFCW Legislative and Political Action Department represent the interests of UFCW members on employee benefit issues in all branches of the federal government.

In every major UFCW industry and in all regions, the department is recognized by local unions and employers. In scores of negotiations each year, the department helps generate innovative solutions that bring substantial benefit improvements to UFCW members.

Through specialized knowledge and professional skills, the Negotiated Benefits Department provides UFCW members, local unions and fund trustees with a valuable resource that is especially necessary in today’s economic and social environment. With the department’s expertise and experience in delivering solutions to employer proposals, the UFCW remains a leader in offering superior health insurance and pension benefits to workers in the industries it represents.
